Finding accommodation can sometimes be a challenge. Don’t worry, in this article, I’ll suggest different accommodation options and hotels around Mont-Saint-Michel.
Known as one of France’s top tourist destinations, I recommend staying for at least two days to truly take in its splendour.
Here’s a little guide presenting some of the best accommodation options at Mont-Saint-Michel and in the surrounding villages! 🙂
Generally, staying for two nights is more than enough to visit Mont-Saint-Michel, its iconic abbey, and explore the medieval town’s narrow streets.
During your stay at Mont-Saint-Michel, keep in mind that you can no longer drive up to the island. The car parks are over 2 km away, and then you need to take a free shuttle or walk for 30 minutes to reach the rock.
There are hotels near the car parks, or you can stay directly on the island to enjoy the peace and quiet outside of tourist hours and start your visit earlier.
Even late in the evening, you’ll find restaurants on site. Just remember that prices are generally quite high in the village of Mont-Saint-Michel.
Alternatively, you can choose to stay in the surrounding towns and villages! They offer the opportunity to discover charming villages… and make significant savings on your accommodation! 😉
Whatever your decision, I strongly recommend booking your hotel in advance before your weekend at Mont Saint-Michel!

Mont Saint-Michel is not only a tourist attraction, but it’s also a village! 😉
You’ll find accommodation on site, where you can stay within the walls of Mont Saint-Michel.
However, if you want to find a hotel room on the island itself, be prepared to spend a bit of money! Staying on the mount comes with a cost…
And overall, the services provided rarely offer an excellent quality-to-price ratio…
Staying at Mont-Saint-Michel has two main advantages, though. Firstly, you avoid the hassle of daily trips from the car parks or nearby villages.
Additionally, you get a unique experience! You’ll have extra time in the evening and morning to appreciate the quiet, tourist-free streets, and witness exceptional sunrises and sunsets!
Of course, be sure to travel light! Your car will be parked 2 kilometers away, and the main street of the mount is very crowded and steep! 😉
Hotels to stay on Mont Saint-Michel
La Vieille Auberge : this 2-star hotel is located in the old village of Mont-Saint-Michel, housed in a traditional stone building. Its optimal location puts you just a few steps away from the abbey. The picturesque streets invite you to stroll calmly in the evening or at dawn. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience relaxing moments before the massive arrival of tourists! The establishment includes a restaurant and offers double rooms with a view of the bay. Be aware that its popularity requires maximum anticipation when it comes to booking!
Hôtel la Croix Blanche : this 3-star establishment is located in the medieval town, including a bar. This charming old wooden building contains rooms offering a view of the sea.
La Mère Poulard : the 3-star hotel is situated in a historic building, located in the center of Mont-Saint-Michel. Its rooms, decorated in a classic theme, overlook the bay or the main street of the medieval town. In its renowned restaurant La Mère Poulard, you’ll have the chance to taste their famous omelette, which is world-renowned… even if the quality-to-price ratio has become more than questionable!
Les Terrasses Poulard : the 3-star establishment offers rooms with a panoramic view of the bay, the village, and the street. They feature a contemporary design. More spacious, several rooms have large windows facing the bay. Breakfast is available at the restaurant of the Auberge de la Mère Poulard, accessible in just 2 minutes on foot.
Le Mouton Blanc : this other 3-star hotel is located at the foot of the abbey, in a historic building dating back to the 14th century. It features cozy rooms with a simple and convivial decoration. Their restaurant serves authentic local cuisine, which can be served in the dining room or on the terrace.
Staying in the Mont Saint-Michel Abbey
Pilgrims and hikers with a credential or the Miquelot passport have the opportunity to spend one night at the Maison du Pèlerin.
It is located at the foot of the Grand Degré leading to the abbey. I strongly encourage you to book well in advance to ensure a place in this establishment!

Do you prefer to stay close to Mont Saint-Michel without breaking the bank? Consider exploring the hotel area near the parking lots, nicknamed “la Caserne“.
Compared to Mont-Saint-Michel and the surrounding villages, this place lacks charm! However, it offers comfortable accommodations, as well as various shops and restaurants.
Some hotels have private parking spaces, usually free of charge. Nevertheless, note that traffic is still subject to a mandatory toll in the entire hotel area!
These hotels are an excellent compromise between cost and convenience compared to Mont-Saint-Michel accommodations. Indeed, they offer rates that are 2 to 3 times lower! 😉
Where to stay in the Mont Saint-Michel hotel area
Mercure Mont Saint-Michel : it is located less than 2 kilometers from Mont-Saint-Michel, close to the parking areas. You can also discover the restaurant Le Pré Salé, known for its regional specialties.
Where to stay at Mont Saint-Michel on a budget
You’ll have understood that the mount attracts millions of tourists and has become a real cash machine. It’s therefore not really possible to find cheap accommodation at Mont Saint-Michel!
Here are a few addresses for budget-friendly accommodations around Mont Saint-Michel, for my readers with limited budgets:
Hôtel F1 Avranches Baie du Mont Saint-Michel : a classic hotel from the famous chain, located at the foot of Avranches, about 12 km from Mont Saint-Michel. Basic, but it’s a good address for cheap accommodation around Mont Saint-Michel! 😉
Hôtel de France : this small establishment is located in Pontorson, less than 5 km from Mont Saint-Michel. Simple comfort, but a practical address, another option for staying near Mont Saint-Michel on a tight budget.
Where to stay around Mont Saint-Michel

Another alternative, which I have always preferred, is to look for accommodation in one of the villages around Mont Saint-Michel.
This will give you more options and generally more attractive prices! However, take into account the cost of parking for each visit to Mont Saint-Michel.
I recommend this solution if your trip includes discovering other tourist attractions in Normandy. However, making round trips from the parking lot, followed by taking the shuttle or walking to Mont Saint-Michel, can waste a lot of time!
Accommodation options are available mainly in four towns and villages, a few kilometers from Mont Saint-Michel.
Where to stay in Beauvoir
Beauvoir is a small village nestled just one kilometer from the Mont Saint-Michel hotel area.
There are hotels with very competitive prices. They allow easy access to the Mont Saint-Michel parking areas via a small road that runs along the meadows.

Pontorson is a small town with approximately 4,500 residents, located 9 kilometers south of Mont-Saint-Michel.

During the summer period or when accommodations closer to Mont Saint-Michel are full… or overpriced, this town can be an interesting alternative! 😉
