Where to stay in Paris on a budget
Sleeping cheap in Paris is quite complicated!
In the French capital, it is rare to find a room for two for less than €150 a night. For this price, you will generally get a standard room, far from the superior services that one could hope for in other European cities.
I have selected the cheapest accommodations in Paris, in different neighborhoods, based on positive traveler reviews. I excluded poorly rated accommodations to keep only reliable options under €100 a night (please note, rates fluctuate depending on the season and events in the city).
Of course, these cheap hotels in Paris are in high demand! To take advantage of these attractive prices, I highly advise you to book several weeks, or even months, in advance! 😉
What are the most affordable neighborhoods to stay in Paris?
To find cheap accommodation in the capital, the rule is simple: you have to move away from the tourist hyper-centre (Louvre, Opéra, Marais) and aim for residential or rapidly changing neighborhoods. Here are the areas where the value for money is most advantageous in 2026.
The 11th and 20th (Oberkampf / Ménilmontant): authentic Paris
These districts of eastern Paris are the beating heart of popular and trendy Paris. By staying around Oberkampf or Ménilmontant, you can access a large offer of modern youth hostels and small independent hotels.
- The advantage: it is here that you will find the cheapest restaurants, bakeries and bars in the city.
- The atmosphere: a vibrant neighborhood life, far from frozen museums, ideal for those who want to live like a real Parisian while remaining 10 minutes by metro from the Hôtel de Ville.
The 13th (Place d’Italie): safe, modern and well connected
The 13th arrondissement is often overlooked by classic guides, and that is a mistake! Around the Place d’Italie, you will find many chain hotels (Ibis, Kyriad, B&B) at much softer prices than elsewhere.
- The advantage: it is one of the safest and best-connected neighborhoods. With lines 5, 6 and especially line 14 (automatic and ultra-fast), you can reach the center of Paris or the Gare de Lyon in record time.
- The little extra: the proximity of Chinatown allows you to eat for less than €15 in excellent Asian canteens.
The immediate periphery (Porte de Versailles / Saint-Ouen): recent hotels
If your priority is the comfort of a recent hotel without paying the high price, aim for the “Portes”. Porte de Versailles (in the south) or Saint-Ouen (in the north) home large, new-generation hotel complexes.
- The advantage: rooms are often more spacious and better equipped (air conditioning, new bedding) than in the historic center.
- The trick: in Saint-Ouen, you benefit from line 14 which drops you off at Saint-Lazare or the Louvre in less than 15 minutes, while paying 30% less for your night.
La Plaine Saint-Denis: the good RER plan at bargain prices
Often neglected, the La Plaine Saint-Denis area is one of the best kept secrets for small budgets. Located just north of Paris, this modern business area has several very affordable hotels (Novotel, Ibis, B&B) located at the foot of the RER stations.
- The advantage: with the RER B or RER D, you are only one station away from Gare du Nord and two stations (about 10 min) from Châtelet-Les Halles.
- The advice: this is the ideal strategic location if you are arriving from Charles de Gaulle airport or if you are attending an event at the Stade de France, while having lightning-fast access to the center of Paris.
Top 10 of the best cheap youth hostels in Paris

If you are traveling solo, with friends or on a tight budget, youth hostels (or “hostels”) are the ultimate solution for staying in the capital. But beware: the offer is massive and the quality is uneven!
What is the best youth hostel in Paris? It all depends on what you are looking for: a festive atmosphere to meet people, a quiet establishment with dormitories reserved for women, or a design bed right in the centre near the Marais or the gare du Nord.
To save you from bad surprises, the mouse has selected establishments that meet three non-negotiable criteria: cleanliness, safety and immediate proximity to the metro. Here is my top 10 of cheap youth hostels in Paris, comfortable and top-rated by travelers:

Selection of cheap hotels in Paris under €100

Are you rather looking for a cheap hotel in Paris? To find low-budget accommodation options in Paris aside from youth hostels, you often have to move away from the tourist centre.
But fortunately, the metro allows you to move around quickly! Finding a private double room in Paris for less than €100 is the real traveler’s challenge! To stick to this budget in 2026, you need to target the peripheral arrondissements (12th, 13th, 14th, 18th, 19th, 20th) or the immediate neighboring municipalities connected to the metro.
“Booking” tip for your stay in Paris
To find accommodation in Paris at a bargain price, always activate the “Getaway Deal” filter or look for “Genius” properties on Booking. Discounts can drop a room from €115 to under €90, allowing you to respect your budget while upgrading your experience!
🐭 The little extra: also remember to check “Breakfast included” in the filters: in Paris, a café-croissant on a terrace can quickly cost €12, having it included at the hotel is often a real saving!
Here are some fairly central options, all within Paris intra-muros, on a tight budget:

Cheap hotels in Paris on the outskirts of the city

For your trip to Paris, here are cheap neighborhoods on the immediate outskirts, while remaining very decent. If you are looking for a hotel in Paris under 80 euros during the season, it will be easier to find what you are looking for in this selection!
I limit myself here to zones 2 and 3 of public transport, not very far from the center, and systematically indicate the nearest station and the line concerned.
Below are a few other options for cheap accommodation in Paris on the close outskirts, suitable for small budgets… 🙂
🚇 Northern Sector (Saint-Ouen, Saint-Denis): fast access
- B&B HOME Paris Mairie de Saint-Ouen: located just north of Paris, 300 m from line 14 (the fastest to reach Châtelet in 15 min). This 3-star establishment is very highly rated! It is a bit more expensive than the F1 but much more comfortable. It offers modern rooms and studios, perfect for a budget hotel close to the Paris metro without sacrificing speed.
- HôtelF1 Paris Saint Denis Stade: it is a bit further out, but the value for money remains unbeatable so close to Paris! Ideally located a stone’s throw from the Stade de France (RER B is 5 min away), this establishment charms with its clean rooms and the warm welcome of the staff. A perfect choice where to sleep near Paris really cheap!
🚇 Southern Sector (Vanves, Kremlin-Bicêtre): calm and modernity
- Eklo Paris Porte de Versailles: located in Vanves (on the edge of the 15th), this eco-friendly hotel with an ultra-modern design offers optimized rooms at soft prices. This is one of the best choices in 2026, especially to be close to the Parc des Expositions while remaining 15 min from the Eiffel Tower via line 12.
- ibis budget Paris Porte d’Italie: in Kremlin-Bicêtre (south of the 13th), this is a safe bet for small budgets looking for the guarantee of a chain hotel. For around €75 to €90, you get a functional room with direct access to metro line 7 to explore the Latin Quarter.
🚇 Eastern Sector (Bercy, Montreuil): practical and lively
- ibis budget Paris Porte de Bercy: this cheap ibis hotel in Paris stands out for its exceptional welcome. The rooms offer a nice view and good insulation. The location close to the 12th arrondissement is convenient (Liberté metro station on line 8 is less than a 10 min walk away).
- Hôtel F1 Paris Porte de Montreuil: this hotel in Montreuil appeals with its immediate proximity to the metro (line 9 is 5 min away), restaurants and shops. With its functional rooms, it offers excellent value for money for a cheap stay in Paris!
That is it, I hope I have guided you to find your cheap hotel in Paris!
3 tips to pay less for your accommodation in Paris 💡
Tip 1: bet on “Express” metro lines (1, 4, and 14)
To save on accommodation, geographic distance matters less than travel time. The key is to stay at the ends of the fastest metro lines.
Line 14, which is completely automatic, allows you to sleep near Mairie de Saint-Ouen (North) or Olympiades/Orly (South) in recent and affordable hotels, while reaching Châtelet or Gare de Lyon in less than 15 minutes. Similarly, lines 1 and 4 cross Paris from one side to the other: staying at the terminus (Vincennes or Montrouge) offers you a quieter setting and “suburb” prices without sacrificing your sightseeing time.
Tip 2: the golden rule of the “Portes de Paris”
This is the most effective tip for tight budgets: look for a hotel located about 200 meters from the ring road (boulevard périphérique), but on the outside (neighboring municipalities). Towns like Levallois-Perret, Pantin, Bagnolet, or Malakoff literally touch Paris.
By simply crossing the bridge overlooking the ring road, nightly rates often drop by 30%. You thus benefit from a hotel that is often more modern, more spacious, and above all much cheaper, while being only a 5-minute walk from a Parisian metro station.
Tip 3: tame the algorithms with the “Genius” program
As I mentioned above, if you use Booking.com, never book without being logged into your account! The Genius loyalty program (accessible for free starting from 2 bookings) is particularly powerful in Paris! It unlocks immediate discounts of 10 to 15% on a huge selection of budget hotels.
Expert advice: combine these discounts with the “Getaway Deal” filter and favor bookings on the Booking mobile app, as some Parisian hoteliers offer exclusive “mobile rates”, which are another 10% cheaper than on a computer!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): staying cheap in Paris in 2026❓
What is the cheapest arrondissement in Paris?
Generally, the 19th and 20th arrondissements as well as the north of the 18th offer the lowest rates. These are popular and lively neighborhoods. For a good compromise between price and safety, you can also aim for the 13th arrondissement (Chinatown).
Which neighborhood to choose to stay as a family in Paris without breaking the bank?
The mouse suggests the Bercy neighborhood (12th). It is a recent, airy area, with a large park and the open-air shopping center of Bercy Village. The hotels there are modern, often equipped with family rooms, and the rates are softer than around the Louvre.
Where to sleep in Paris to enjoy the nightlife?
The Bastille neighborhood or the République / Canal Saint-Martin area (10th and 11th) are perfect. This is where the heart of Parisian youth beats, with countless bars and restaurants. It is also where you will find the best value for money for dynamic and modern hotels.
Is it cost-effective to stay outside of Paris (Suburbs)?
Yes, staying in bordering towns like Levallois-Perret, Issy-les-Moulineaux, or Saint-Mandé is very cost-effective! These cities are safe, on the metro network, and hotels there are often 20 to 30% cheaper than in Paris intra-muros!
Are there any neighborhoods to avoid in Paris?
Paris is more or less safe, at least in the center, but some areas are less pleasant for tourists. The mouse advises against staying too close to gare du Nord or gare de l’Est late at night (presence of drug addicts), or around the northern gates of Paris (Porte de la Chapelle, Porte d’Aubervilliers). These areas can seem a bit rough and lack charm!
Is it safe to stay on the outskirts of Paris (Porte de Saint-Ouen, Porte de la Chapelle)?
Safety varies from one “Porte” to another. While areas like Porte de Versailles, Porte d’Orléans, or Porte de Saint-Mandé are perfectly safe and residential, the neighborhoods around Porte de la Chapelle or Porte d’Aubervilliers can be more intimidating at night! I won’t hide from you that this is an area known for its migrant camps under the ring road and the presence of “crack” users.
For a peaceful stay on a small budget, I advise you to favor the southern and eastern outskirts (Montrouge, Vincennes, Levallois), which offer a very pleasant living environment and optimal safety while being on the metro network.
Can you stay in Saint-Denis without danger?
Staying in Saint-Denis is an increasingly popular option thanks to the recent hotel supply around the Stade de France and the Cité du Cinéma. For a hassle-free stay, favor establishments located in the La Plaine Saint-Denis neighborhood, which is modern, relatively safe, and very well served by the RER B and D (5-10 min from Châtelet).
On the other hand, avoid areas too far from the historical city center of Saint-Denis late at night if you are not familiar with the city. It is an excellent choice to pay 40% less for your hotel than intra-muros while remaining at the gates of the capital. However, I still do not recommend this area to single women!
What is the average price of a cheap hotel room in Paris in 2026?
In 2026, for a decent double room with a private bathroom, the average “cheap” price is between €85 and €115 per night. Below €75, you will mainly find youth hostels or hotels with shared bathrooms. To get these rates, it is essential to book at least 2 months in advance and avoid periods of major trade shows or Fashion Week, when prices can triple!
Can you find a hotel in Paris for less than 30 euros?
In a private room, it is almost impossible today. For this budget, you have to turn to youth hostels in dorms or look towards the further suburbs accessible by RER.
How much does the tourist tax cost in Paris?
In Paris, the tourist tax has been increased to finance transport. For 2026, expect around €2.60 per night and per person for a 2-star hotel or a youth hostel, and €5.20 for a 3-star hotel. This amount is to be paid directly to the establishment upon your arrival or departure. Note that this tax does not apply to minors under 18.
Can you find a cheap hotel in Paris at the last minute?
Booking at the last minute in Paris is risky and often more expensive! However, if you have no choice, use the Booking.com mobile app to access “Mobile Rates” or “Last Minute Deals” which often appear after 6 PM for the same night.
Another tip is to look at hotels in business districts like La Défense, which drop their prices on weekends when business travelers are away.
How to manage luggage if the hotel is far from the center?
This is the dilemma of cheap accommodation: it is often far from the station. If your hotel or hostel is on the outskirts, don’t waste 2 hours of travel time just to drop off your suitcase. Use connected luggage storage services like Bounce or LuggageHero.
For around €5 a day, you can leave your luggage in a partner shop right next to Gare du Nord or the Louvre, allowing you to travel light as soon as you arrive.
Is it easy to find accommodation with a disability in Paris?
It is a challenge, as many old hotels do not have an elevator or have very narrow cabins. For an accessible stay, target recent neighborhoods like Bercy, Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand (13th), or the new hotels at Porte de Versailles. Metro line 14 is the only one fully accessible: staying nearby is a huge advantage.
Where to sleep to be close to Disneyland Paris while visiting the city?
Stay in eastern Paris, near Nation or Gare de Lyon. You will be directly on the RER A line, which takes you to the parks in 35 minutes, while being 10 minutes by metro from the center of Paris! 😉
What is the average food budget for a “budget” traveler in Paris?
It is completely possible to eat well in Paris for about €30 to €40 per day. A breakfast in a bakery costs around €5, a “lunch menu” in a neighborhood brasserie or an Asian deli runs around €15, and a simple dinner (pizza, crêperie, or a traditional Parisian bouillon like Bouillon Chartier) costs around €15-20.
**The ultimate tip**: Paris tap water is excellent, always ask for a free “carafe d’eau” (jug of water) at the restaurant! 😉
🍴 The gourmet tip: Parisian Bouillons
To eat like a king without emptying your wallet, head to the Bouillons! These Parisian institutions from the last century are making a strong comeback. The concept: traditional French cuisine, a sublime Belle Époque decor, and unbeatable prices.
- 🥗 Starters starting at €2 (egg mayo is sacred!), mains around €10 and desserts at €4.
- 📍 Cult addresses: Bouillon Chartier (Grands Boulevards, Gare de l’Est, or Montparnasse), Bouillon Pigalle, or Bouillon République.
- 🐭 The mouse’s advice: you cannot book (except at République), so come early (11:45 AM or 6:30 PM) to avoid the queue that often stretches out on the sidewalk!
Summary: which neighborhood to choose to sleep in Paris?
- The 12th and 13th: for calm, modernity, and wiser prices.
- The 10th and 11th: for the trendy atmosphere, canals, and nightlife.
- The 14th and 15th: for the “Parisian village” spirit and safety.
- The 18th (Jules Joffrin side): for the charm of Montmartre without the prices of Place du Tertre.
- The close suburbs: for a tight budget, provided you are less than 5 minutes from a metro station.
One last piece of advice, I must insist: book your accommodation in Paris well in advance! This is the best way to benefit from the most competitive prices, especially during peak periods! 😉
